46 | Frik Du Preez | Boksburg | CGA | ZA | M | 50-54 | R |
|
A warhorse who is returning after a four year absence to do battle at Hekpoort, Frik
holds permanent number 46. After 29 years, he has run more than 360 of the "shorter"
marathons, has a Comrades Double Green number and nine 100km events. This excludes four 12 hours and 18 hour races, another five 24 hour events and three 100 Milers. Frik has also finished a total of 8 Six Day races around the country. Although pets are not normally allowed to take part, Frik's special bottle dog has probably covered more hundreds of km on the ground than any other bottle dog in the world. |

53 | Chanleigh Mason | uMhlathuze A.C | KZN | ZA | F | 21-34 | R |
|
When Chanleigh first entered the 6 Day in 2008, her Longest Day qualifier
was the first long ultra and the 6 Day was to be the second. Chanleigh set aside any doubt by reaching the miniumum 403km in just 4 days and 22 hours and then added a further 34km to slow down. With an extra two 100 Milers, two Comrades, an Addo 50 Miler and a swim across the Midmar dam (probably way under 50 minutes), that permanent number should be getting closer. After that, Chanleigh would be in a position to start a range of multi-day footwear including everything from running shoes to bedroom slippers, all of which seem to do the job. |

54 | Rodney Currie | uMhlathuze | KZN | ZA | M | 45-49 | R |
|
uMhlathuze could become the biggest Circuit Race club for 2010. It's possible
that Chanleigh did some arm-twisting here although Rodney is not a stranger to
running around in circles - the Longest Day Circuit is about 333m long per lap. He ahs also completed three other 12 Hour events, Coaldust Reach-for-a-dream last year , Comrades and the Midmar. Two of the uMhlathuze annual awards are for "Stirrer of the Year" and "Padsoeker of the year". Whatever skills are needed to win these positions, Rodney has got them. |
